Yesterday morning (Friday), the guy from Time Warner came to our house to fix our cable TV. Daddy and I were home to meet him. We all went upstairs to my playroom where the TV is. While they were talking, I played with my toys. Then I decided to watch some TV (a show about wolves was on Discovery). So while they were talking, I crawled over to my chair, sat in it, and quietly started watching TV! Dad came over and sat with me while the cable guy was setting stuff up and we watched the wolves together - nice. I pointed out the wolf on TV - it looks like a dog and I just love dogs! He was quite impressed that I sat in my chair.

Teeth!

Well about time. More teeth are now starting to appear. You can now feel at least one tooth at the bottom, perhaps two, and my second top tooth is also there too. It hurts a bit though - Mummy has given me some baby Tylenol and some gell for my gums. It might be a rough night tonight...

Well my second front tooth at the top is coming in nicely. No more "fang", thank-you very much! The bottom tooth has appeared too, but not making as much progress. But at least now I can bite things. Mummy is teaching me not to bite her!

I've been having lots of fun this week at my school, playing lots both inside and outside. However Thursday afternoon, I started not feeling well. In fact, by 4pm, I had an 102°F temperature (39°C). Mum & Dad came and picked me up and took me home and gave me some drugs. Friday morning I went to see the doctor, and he reported that I have an ear infection in my right ear. So I got some new drugs, one for the infection and one for the cough and runny nose I have too. Hopefully I will get better soon. Mummy bought me a nice balloon "Get well soon" to make me feel better - I like balloons!

I'm looking forward to Grandma and Grandad Rakkar arriving next week too!

Well I'm feeling much better. I've still got antibiotics to take (Amoxicillin) for a total of 10 days. The medicine is really tasty - I like taking it every day. Isn't that funny.

Did you know that I'm now quite good at recognizing objects. If Mummy or Daddy says to be to get my Bobo or Blue Dog or Blankie, I know exactly what to get. And if I'm playing with my wooden squares (the ones that Aunty Suzi got me while I was in Germany in July which have pictures on them), and they give me the one with the ball on it and ask me to find the other one, I can do it most of the time (provided I don't get bored and wander of to find a book or something). Pretty clever huh?

Speaking of books, I love to read them (or have a staff member read them to me). My favourite book at the moment is my "Where's Spot" book with flip-out doors on each page. Someone reads me the words on the page (eg "Is Spot under the bed?") and I can lift the little flaps to find Spot. Such fun.

Steps!

Some great news at daycare today - I took some steps. I took a total of 12 steps in three lots. The teachers were so pleased, they called Daddy at work to tell him about it. Later when Mummy & Daddy came to pick me up, I took two steps for them just to show what I could do.

After school, we had dinner with the Kourirs at the Sawmill Taproom, our usual hangout. I really enjoyed myself and got to walk around with everyone's help (they took turns). I was pretty tired and had a quick bath and off to bed.

Grandma and Grandad Rakkar are now here with us and will stay until after New Year. They arrived yesterday afternoon from London. I was a little bit unsure about them, but I soon remembered. They are both lots of fun. Grandad especially makes me laugh.

This week was a special week at my school. We had "backwards and inside out" day, "red, white, and blue" day, "crazy hair" day, "favourite book" day, and today was pyjamas day. All lots of fun. Today was also family snack time this afternoon. Everyone came to have a snack with me -- Mummy, Daddy, Grandma and Grandad.

I showed everyone how good I am at walking. I can now walk without too much difficulty up to a dozen steps at a time, and I can stand all by myself for an extended period. I'm still a bit slow though -- it is still quicker to crawl! Not for long though!

After finishing up at daycare, we went to Caribou Coffee for a little while where we had milk and coffee (well, I had milk). That was nice too. Then at home, I played with Grandad upstairs and he read me some books, then dinner, bath and bed -- I was exhausted!

Cinderella

What a fun day yesterday. We went to see Raleigh Little Theatre's production of Cinderella at the BTI Center in downtown Raleigh. It was us, Grandma and Grandad, and the Kouris. We went to their 1pm Matinee. That was lots of fun. Mummy got me a very pretty tiara and wand so I would look the part (in case Prince Charming tried the glass slipper on me and it fitted). I watched just about the entire show!

After that, we all came back to our place for tea, wine and sippy cups (you can probably guess what I had). We also had some biscuits (cookies) to go with our drinks. I especially enjoyed the shortbread biscuits and had about 20 of them.

Then about 5:30, we all went for an early dinner at Winston's Grill and nice restaurant not too far from home. There I had lots to each (some of everyone's) and even two sips of champagne! Even though we didn't leave until about 7:30, the mouthfuls of chocolate dessert that I had meant that I was still awake so I had my usual bath and milk before retiring. A very pleasant day!

It has been lots of fun having Grandma and Grandad Rakkar here with me. More people to play with and to give me attention. And Uncle Paul arrives tomorrow too. Excellent!

I haven't been sleeping well these past few nights, waking up several times. My nose is still a bit runny, and today I started getting yellow goop in the corner of my eye. By late morning, my staff got the call from daycare saying I have a high temperature, so off I am to the doctor this afternoon.

Well the news from the doctor is that I now have an ear infection in both ears. Apparently my antibiotic wasn't doing much. So I have a new one and we'll see how that goes. I'm still feeling poorly and my skin gets hot too. The Tylenol helps with that.

Yesterday, in the morning, I had another haircut (I needed it - my hair was in my eyes a lot). In the afternoon Mummy & Daddy went to the airport to pick up Uncle Paul (apparently he was just hanging around the airport or something). Then in the evening, we had the Kouris over for Christmas drinks (they are going on a cruise over Christmas). That was lots of fun: we opened presents and had lots of chitchat and I got lots of attention (of course).

And I got some presents too. I got a little play kitchen that makes sounds and lights, and a very cool and noisy Wiggly guitar. I also got a lovely Christmas book from Gerrie, and some hair clips. I gave Amanda a little photo of me and a braclet and some earings. And I gave Gerrie a label maker, and Dick some golf balls. They liked them a lot.

Our Christmas TreeWell it's Christmas Eve today. That means tonight we open our Chrismas presents (the German tradition). We're all getting ready for dinner tonight - table being set, food being prepared, last minute presents being wrapped, me having a nap - all the essentials. And our lovely Christmas tree is all ready too. There's lots of pressies for everyone! I've been good, honest!

Bob & Charlene are coming over for dinner too - that will be lots of fun. And on Monday (day after boxing day), we're going over to Ken & Jean's for dinner there too.

The true identity of Secret Santa is still a mystery. He (or she)'s brought me a present four times so far - extremely generous. The most recent present was a Wiggles DVD! I think I'll need to dust for prints!

Merry Christmas

Revealed! Secret Santa is Amanda!! And her little helper elf Gerrie! They tricked everyone - talk about being devious! How lovely!

I've had a wonderful Christmas so far. Had a wonderful dinner last night with Bob and Charlene (and Grandma, Grandad and Uncle Paul too), but flaked out soon after. The others opened some of their Chrissie presents. I opened some of mine Christmas morning - so many presents!! Everyone was so kind and generous.

And tonight, Carmen came over for Viener Schnitzel for dinner. Uncle Paul made it, and Grandma's Triffle for desert - very yummy.

It snowed today! So we missed a white Christmas by one day. It was very pretty - just enough snow for everything to get covered in white, but not enough to prevent us from going out a lunchtime for lunch and to do some grocery shopping.

My ears are still hurting me, so I guess I still have the ear infection. I'm taking my antibiotics and some baby Tylenol, so that's good. And last night, I didn't wake up during the night like I have been these passed several nights. Everyone was pleased about that, but I did like sleeping in Grandma and Grandad's bed though.

My staff photographer got a new camera for Christmas - a Nikon D70 digital SLR with an SB-600 external flash - so with any luck he'll start taking some decent shots of me. It's a great camera by all accounts. My cousins Sarah and Peter in Australia also bought him a UV filter to go with it which should also help things (and protect the lens from scratches -- and my fingers!).

And my new trick is that I can do "cheers" with everyone and their drinks. I can clink my cup of milk or water with everyone's wine or beer. It's lot of fun doing "cheers"!

Dinner at Ken & Jean's

I had lots of fun last night. We all went next door to Ken & Jean Oakley for dinner. Ellie and her parental units Sally & David were there too. Ellie is about 10 months older than me and she looked after me while the grownups did their chit-chat and stuff. We had dinner together at their big table and I had some ham, some shimp pasta and some potatos. And best of all, we had fruit for desert and I discovered I absolutely love blueberries - I had about 20 of them! We all had lots of fun and I stayed up really late - beyond 8:30!

Uncle Paul left early this morning. He's going to spend New Year's Eve with Karin. I'm glad he came here to spend Christmas with us. And he brought great presents too! I've been really enjoying myself these past days while he and Grandad and Grandma have been here. I've been laughing and laughing at all sorts of things. I love to play chasey and I really love my new blow-up house that Mum & Dad got me for Christmas. Grandad in particular is lots of fun!

As far as food goes, my current favourites are blueberries and bananas. Blueberries are a recent discovery (I had them while were at Ken & Jean's the other night), and I really love them. This evening in my high chair, after my dinner, Dad asked me if I wanted to have some blueberries and he showed me the packet. My eyes lit up, I did a big smile, I nodded my head, and I kicked my feet! I was very excited to have some.

Happy New Year!

Well it's the last day of 2004. I'm sure next year will be just as fun. Here are some videos of my recent activities:

Here's a summary of what I do as a 14-month-old (exactly!):

  • I can walk, albeit a bit wobbly. I been seen walking up to 20 steps at one time
  • I can crawl up the stairs without difficulty
  • I have four teeth. The two top ones came first and the two bottom ones are out, but are quite short still
  • I'm very chatty. Sometimes I say words, but other times its just interesting noises
  • Words I say are: Mummy, Daddy, ball, no, dog, up, blue, Grandad, Manda (Amanda), that, more, nigh-nigh (night-night),
  • If you ask me questions, I'll either nod and smile or I'll shake my head. Sometimes its not the answer you're expecting, such as if you ask me "Zoe, do you want concrete shoes?"
  • I can properly get down from the sofa or the bed by turning around and going feet first. My staff still like to help me though, just to be sure I don't fall.
  • I love certain foods especially: bananas, blueberries, cheese, strawberries, chocolate, whatever-everyone-else-is-eating
  • I'm very good at eating with my fingers and with a spoon when someone holds it. I'm also learning to each from a spoon or fork that I hold by myself.
  • I'm in the Toddler class at daycare, but I'm one of the youngest there. I really like being at daycare.
  • I can do "cheers" with others when toasting with drinks
  • I know what phones and remote controls do. I've been known to pick up the phone and put it to my ear to take calls. I've also pointed to the remote when I want to watch one of my programs on TV
  • I have a little chair in the TV room that I sit in when I have my night-time milk or when I'm watching one of my programs on TV. It's one of the chairs the Amanda had when she was a little girl. They're great.
  • Programs I watch are: nature programs on Discovery, Seasame Street, Teletubbies, The Wiggles, plus a few others on rare occasion. I also have my Baby Einstien DVDs too.
  • I go to bed about 7:30pm and I wake up usually about 6:30-7:30am. I'm a squirmer during the night though: I'll roll all around the bed and crawl to the other end several times during the night. When I wake, I'll play a bit by myself, then I'll stand and look to the door and make sufficient noises until someone comes to get me.
  • Before bed each night, I have a bath (which Dad usually helps me with), then I change into jammies and have some warm milk before retiring. I'm usually very happy to go to bed and don't complain at all.
  • I don't lie still while I'm asleep. I'm all over the bed facing all directions even across the bed. One of my favourite positions is on my tummy and on my knees with my bottom in the air. Yes it is comfortable!
  • I only have my "schnullie" (pacifier/dummy) at night times when I'm in my crib. I don't have it any other times unless I'm unwell (or a teacher at daycare gives it to me). In the mornings when I want out of my bed, I'll occasionally evict it from bed along with my toys.
  • My bed toys are my rabbit, my dog, my little blankie, and my bobo. Sometimes I have other "guest" toys, such as my blue dog.
