I think the staff are planning to give me a first name and 17 middle names!  Needless to say, they haven't figured out my name yet. Must be a difficult task.

They also looked at assembling the crib over the weekend. The problem is that it won't fit through the doorway once its assembled and they want to paint in my room before hand. So it remains in pieces. Rick Young, the scenic designer from Raleigh Little Theatre is coming to the house on Wednesday to plan to paint clouds on my ceiling. I think I'll suggest he do something like the Sistine Chapel.

Thank you to Charlotte and Bob & Charlene who gave me lovely things this weekend. Very nice of you!

Went to the doctor today for my fortnightly checkup. I've been quite squirmy lately (doing renovations, holding parties, that sort of thing), but the doc says that's OK. I've put on about half a kilogram (1 lb) since the last visit, also normal.

The doctor measured my heartbeat and it is currently 160 bpm. He uses a heartbeat monitor (like the one pictured here) so my staff can hear the "budump-budump".

The next activity for my staff is to find me a nice pediatrician for when I'm "on the outside".

The three of us went to our first baby class tonight, at Rex Hospital, where I've made reservations for my coming-out party. There were about a dozen families-to-be there. I was a bit nervous about what it was going to be like, but so was everyone else so it was OK. Now I know which way I'm supposed to come out (head first, facing backwards apparently). The lady spoke for about 2 hours and we practiced relaxing and stuff. We have 4 more sessions, one each week.

Last night, we had our second baby class. We did more relaxation techniques and practiced doing massages and stuff. Mummy liked that! Then we went on a tour of the birthing centre. We saw the room where I'll be born - quite spacious and modern looking with flooring that looked like hardwood flooring. The room had a TV and VCR and private bathroom and shower. All quite comfortable and private. An hour or so after I'm born, we'll move to a slightly smaller room but with the same amenities. On the tour we also saw other babies that had just been born. One was just 2 hours old. Wow.

Actar 911 infant CPR dummyToday was Baby CPR class. We had to get up early for a Saturday as the class started at 9am. There were four other couples there, including one from our other class. My associates learned how to resusitate me in case I stop breathing or I'm choking. They got to practice on a dummy. Dad was being silly by wacking the dummy's head on the table and stuff.

Had brunch with Bob and Charlene (and two of their friends) today at Nofo at the Pig. Eggs Benedict - yum! Charlene has graciously offered to organize a baby shower/party in my honour. Very nice of her! Now it's time for a nap!

Such a cute outfit from Gail and AlfredWell we're in the midst of Hurricane Isabel, but I'm going to stay where I am! Too windy out there! Only 7 more weeks though, then I'm out of here. We went to the doctor again today for my routine checkup - everything still OK with me.

Got another lovely outfit from my surrogate grandparents Gail & Alfred. Thanks! And thanks to Heather for lending us some clothes - they'll come in handy! Alas tonight's baby class was cancelled.

Tonight, my naming consultants were hard at work. They've managed to narrow down my name to five names now. Add to that various combinations of potential middle names. Just to be sure, they also considered nicknames (nice and mean) and acronyms. They also reviewed Google to see what my namesakes have been up to (and to ensure they weren't jail birds or porn queens). And of course David checked to ensure domain names were available!  How thorough.

Good news on grandma's knee surgery: her total knee replacement was a success. She'll be in hospital for a week or perhaps more...
